It has been revealed this morning that BioWare and Electronic Art’s epic Science-Fiction sequel, Mass Effect 2, has headed straight to the top of the UK all-format sales charts. Mass Effect 2 launched in the UK last Friday, January 29th 2010, on Xbox 360 and PC DVD.
After having reportedly shipped two million units to retail worldwide, Mass Effect 2 has taken the top spot in the UK, knocking Ubisoft’s Just Dance down to second place, according to GfK Chart-Track data. The chart applies for the week ending January 30th, which means BioWare’s latest managed to become the biggest selling game of last week with just it’s first days of sales.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is still performing well, currently in third place, while Sony Computer Entertainment and Zipper Interactive’s PlayStation 3 exclusive MAG managed to secure fourth position. The rest of the top ten consist of many familiar names, with Nintendo’s irrepressible Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus taking fifth and sixth positions, and EA SPORTS’ highly successful FIFA 10 in seventh. New Super Mario Bros. Wii appears in eighth position, while blockbuster releases Army of Two: The 40th Day and James Cameron’s Avatar: The Video Game round-out the top ten.
The fact that Mass Effect 2 has managed to outdo every other game in the UK this week won’t be a surprise to many, but there’ll be a keen interest in seeing if it manages to keep that top spot for a second week. The full top ten follows below, and Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details from the UK videogames industry.
