Syndicate art confirms the game was/is in the works photo

A remake/reboot of the Syndicate series has been rumored to be under development by Electronic Arts for a good long while now. The game has quite the cult following, and anyone who has played it should know why. I haven't, so I have no clue.

But from descriptions it sounds awesome. Who wouldn't want to go around a cyber punk future destroying enemy corporations in a game, especially when that game is rumored to be developed by the talented guys at Starbreeze for EA?

There hasn't really been any firm proof that the remake is in the works yet. However, we now have some concept art for the game thanks to a concept artist's blog. Those concept artists just can't keep their stuff secret, can they? The art looks pretty cool, if not a little cliche, and raises some interesting questions about what the new version of the game is going to look like and how it will play.

What do we think, Syndicate fans?

I'd love a remake/reboot but I'd be worried that they'd over simplify it and needlessly change it to a third or first person viewpoint.

The original Syndicate was awesome, you had civilians and cops walking everywhere minding your own business until you started torching/shooting them. But damn, the persuadatron was the best item evar. Syndicate Wars was meh, didn't like the 3d look, and terrible visuals.

Ever had one of those days when one of your agents got hit by a car or train and ended up on the other side of the map? Annoying as hell.

I'm pretty sure I never understood what was going on, or how to play, Syndicate and Syndicate wars. I just liked setting off those nukes.

WANT, but I have a hard time seeing this work on a console if the gameplay is anything like the original two.

As much as I love the first two games, that art looks kinda crummy, not true to the originals at all.

Yeah, a new console-friendly version of this would hardly be the same genre I would think.

Still, I love cyberpunk enough that whatever genre it is I hope it gets made.

We need more cyberpunk videogames. One can't get enough dystopic violence. Anyone remembers Crusader: No Remorse?

@Comadreja

This article made me think of Crusader too. I just downloaded the music from the first level and it brought me right back. That would be amazing if it got a remake.

The Syndicat. And Crusader series were two of my favorites growing up. Never beat any of the games in either series, but the death animations in each were candy to my young, perverted eyes.

DO WANT. Even if they try and fail, they need to try. This is exactly the type of franchise that needs to be remade.

But why the hell is the gallery of concept art from Road Rash/Oliver Twist?

I'd love to see a new Syndicate. I'm not big on this concept art though. I prefer the shady trench coat look to the "Hey! Look at me! I'm a cyborg!" look.

I spent way too much time in my early teens running around in Syndicate Wars (which was good on the PC, I swear!) systematically leveling cities with gauss guns.

Another old Bullfrog property I'd love to see revived: Magic Carpet.

I thought this game was hard as fuck when I was a kid (the original Syndicate) until I discovered how easy it was to minigun your way through everything.

@comadreja: yeah it's one of the cool use of isometric view for an action game, these days not too many games with isometric views outside the genre of dungeon crawlers and RTSes

If the story's about Syndicate, why the hell does the gallery have images of Road Rash?

I only vaguely remember playing the PS1 Syndicate Wars at a friend's house, but from what I remember it was a really neat game. It was just simple enough that I would hope they wouldn't water it down in bringing it back.

I loved the Syndicate games. If they remake them, they'd better be M-rated, because it's just not the same game unless you can douse people with napalm and listen to them running around screaming.

But as for the one piece of concept art, tell the artist that Peter Chung wants his style back. And then tell Peter Chung to stop drawing.
