Guybrush Threepwood will soon be setting sail again and this time his crew will be heading to the Xbox 360 and PS3! That’s the latest news from the LucasArts camp who revealed that Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge would be available on Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network and PC this summer (as well as the iPhone and iPod).
The publisher also announced that The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition would soon be available on the PlayStation Network, Mac and PC.
Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge promises to add “exciting new gameplay features to make this the most complete Monkey Island experience yet.” It sees pirate extraordinaire Threepwood setting his sights on the treasure of the Big Whoop, however, “legendary treasures come with legendary challenges and Guybrush will have to use his wits and humor to prove himself the greatest pirate in the Caribbean.”
“Voodoo dolls, spitting contests and amusement parks are just some of the challenges Guybrush must overcome as he meets old friends, fights familiar enemies and uses every single ounce of his wits to become the most celebrated pirate ever.”
The special edition will see the return of HD graphics, a re-mastered musical score, full voiceover as well as an in-depth hint system. Gamers can also look forward to unique features that will let you interact like never before. For instance you will be given direct control of Guybrush should you choose it over the old point-and-click navigation system.
You will also be able to enjoy an interactive object hint system to highlight interesting objects in the environment, listen to the in-game audio commentary from the game’s creators and catch classic glimpses of select game areas using the in-game art viewer.
“The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition really resonated with gamers young and old thanks to its classic storyline and updated gameplay features,” said LucasArts’ President Darrell Rodriguez. “We’re adding even more great new features in this sequel and can’t wait for classic Monkey Island fans and newcomers alike to experience perhaps the most beloved installment in the franchise ever.”

I still don't like the new visuals, but that's cool - I played Monkey 1 and 2 back in the day, and I still enjoy the old pixel art graphics. If a new generation of gamers get to play these awesome games without being put off by the clunky look of old, I'm all for it!
OK, I kind of take that back - this special edition of Monkey 2 looks pretty good, but my 'old man' stance still remains.
